The irony isn't lost on me; my content is about Nueva York, yet my first blog post is all about Los Angeles, the City of Angels.

On a Wednesday afternoon, one of my clients, Small Melodies, invited me to their GRAMMY party in LA. I'm based in New York, but that didn't stop me from RSVPing, booking a flight, and snagging a hotel with an unexpected incredible view of the Netflix building and those iconic tropical palm trees for a Saturday event that will happen in two weeks.

When the invite came through, I immediately texted one of my favorite Taurus friends, Lizbeth, she's been such an incredible mentor and supporter in my music industry journey. Her excitement pushed me to get out of my head and just go for it. The invite landed just a week before the event, right in the middle of my job hunt for a full-time role while growing my design firm, Cosas Fregón (which, by the way, had an amazing year last year; big W's!).

Though, rejections were piling up, but I reminded myself; the right opportunity hasn't come yet!

The week of the event, I arrived to LA on a Thursday morning, and wow; I was obsessed with my hotel room. The layout was perfect, and the view? Rocky mountains in the distance, sunset palm trees, that deep clear blue sky, and yes, the Netflix building right there. After settling in, I walked 15 minutes to Trader Joe's (in full Native New Yorker winter layers; sweating like a pig in LA heat). Groceries done, back to the room, and what do I see on TV? Bad Girls Club, Season 15: Twisted Sisters; one of my all-time favorites, right up there with Season 9: Mexico (my home country, aye!)

Fast forward to Saturday, the big night. I was nervous going solo, my social battery's been low from all the WFH life, and networking felt daunting after a while. But I showed up!

At the door, my friend Dylan, at the RSVP booth spotted me and yelled, “AYE ALEEXX! Thank you for coming, man!” I was like, “HELL YEAH! Thanks for the invite.” Wristband on, and I stepped in, scoping the scene while my anxiety kicked in…

STAY TUNED FOR PART 2
